The Dutchman

By yemtrav
Proboscis Monkey, Bako, Sarawak.

Endemic to Borneo, nicknamed the Dutchman by the locals from the big nose and pot belly of the mature males.

Feeds mainly on leaves, seeds and bitter fruits in coastal/riverine lowland forests and swamps/mangroves. Mainly tree dwelling but forages and drinks on the ground occasionally. I saw young monkeys walking upright in swamp areas.
