The Empty Shed

By SlowSong
This is in remembrance of my dad who died a few weeks ago after years of suffering. He was a gifted engineer and his shed was his first love.

I've been photographing his tools and machines this morning, but his work-coat hanging on the back of the door looked so mournful and empty, it sort of summed everything up.

Thank you for looking.

So sorry to hear your sad news, Chris, but he is in a far better and pain-free place now. A very moving image, his coat hanging on the door speaks a thousand words, very well captured. Carol

I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss, the death of a parent is painful. The coat hanging empty is poignantly symbolic. It reminds me a little of the very moving Whitehall memorial to the women of WW2, clothes hanging empty but with a human imprint very strongly felt.

Oh Chris, my heart goes out to you, such a very desolate time for you. Your Dad's shed speaks volumes about the man he was - it's clearly been loved and cared for and his personality will have seeped into the furthest corners. You will always be able to 'feel' him here - a reminder of him as strong as any portrait could ever be.

Such a lovely evocative image. The light through the edge of the door seems to say so much in the circumstances.

Isn't it strange how the tiniest of things evokes such feelings. I am sure your father would be pleased that you are still making good use of his treasured tools and his shed.

This is a nice image - I would like to be in that little shed myself.

What is so nice about your work and portfolio is that you have a love for everything around you, and find something in everything to respond to.

Brilliant shot of a workroom, makes one wonder... Great compostion, colours and detail. People may be tempted to shoot from outside in, but you have done one better, from inside out, to a slight opening of the door. I really like your take on this.
