The fallen

By mrswoolybill
Work by Giuseppe Penone at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Bronze tree trunks stand dark, gaunt, bare. Strips of bronze bark have been slashed away from them and lie in tangled heaps on the ground, oozing a trail of sap. Or blood... As you get closer the bark takes on a recognisably human form.
I found this extremely moving, also extremely difficult to photograph.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

Quite a moving piece of art and very well captured. Mono adds to the emotion that this image portrays.

I can imagine the difficulty in trying to portray the feelings evoked by this type of work. I think you have done well. I like this a lot.
Cheers

beautiful job you did for this set, and conceptual art is art for which the idea/concept behind the work is more important than the finished art object.. this could be one of the reasons why these sculptures, as you say, are extremely difficult to photograph

Thanks guys.
The difficulty really was a very messy setting - the 'trees' are in a corner of the courtyard outside the main indoor exhibition gallery, below the Visitor Centre, with a lot going on around them. Stand back, or go down lower, and that's what you see...

Incredible sculpture. I'm surprised, and disappointed, that it wasn't sited more sympathetically. Perhaps there were good reasons for that? In any case, you proved more than equal to the challenge.
An award for sheer determination.

When you see where his works are exhibited, it must have been a coup for the YSP to obtain one of his works. His works are fascinating.
It sounds as if you have done an extremely good job from the way you describe its situation.

Malc, they have a bulk delivery of his work, it's everywhere. See here , although the link just covers a small part of the collection.

I don't have the words and understanding of the good and wise people above but the impact of your photograph was enormous. Worth a thousand words ? more like ten million and still we won't learn.
Thank you Ma'am
