The Family of Refugees

By david deveson
Though the tent outside might be dull, grey plastic covered with UNICEL lettering inside is what is all important.
Family drapes, carpets and cushions all salvaged from their old house in Aleppo serve to give them comfort and some resemblance of their old life; an old life which seems to have been used in non-stop procreation.

The award's partly for the individual excellence of this picture, and partly for the series...

It's a positive, humane image, from an inspiring and humane series. This is photography that actually matters, that tells us something, in a way that most of what we do can never aspire to. I'm pleased to be able to put a GEA here.

Thank you Moira, I was just 'lucky' to be there and to be able to record these people and their suffering. I guess there's hardly a day when I still think of them and wonder where they are now.

Great photo and a powerful reminder that there could go any one of us in different circumstances.
However, I cant help feeling that a bit of restraint in bringing into the world children one cannot support would perhaps not go amiss ?
