The fisherman

By fishiee
Ok something a bit different... This is what I go to Uganda to do mainly... fishing in the most amazing place in the world...

This is my guide Paul Goldring having a few casts with my rod for the camera...

See mods for what he caught just after I finished the photo session...

Thanks for the comments on this one. I thought it looked impressive but wasn't sure if others would like it...

The 100-400 lens does compress the scene a lot and in fact it is perhaps 300m from the rock where the fisherman stands to the waterfall behind.

I was a long way back with the lens at 400mm to achieve this. I knew it would look different but didn't realise it would look like this till I looked through the viewfinder and my jaw dropped! I am standing at least as far away again, probably more, on another rocky outcrop. I had planned the vantage point that would give this shot as we crossed the river each day by boat there and I could see what angle I needed to get the angler and the falls in line.

As for the fishing, I am sure it is now easily the best place in the world to fish for this species (Nile Perch). Most other famous places from the past (Lake Nasser in Egypt, Lake Victoria) are heavily commercially fished. This is a national park and well protected.... there are other potentially better places, but at present the locations are a little unstable and I ain't going there just yet... I have plans though Smile
