"The Forth Bridge"

By RonnieAG
After Graham and I had visited Culross we moved along the Firth to North Queensferry to capture views of The Forth Bridge.

My thanks to all who commented on Light and Shade, and with special gratitude to Graham {digital-boi}, Martyn {brandish}, Trev {TrevBatWCC} and Ray (rayme330} for their precious User Awards.

Ronnie.

Info:
This cantilever bridge was opened on 4th. March 1890 and is a tribute to Victorian engineering. It spans 8296 feet of the Firth of Forth and until 1917 when the Quebec Bridge was completed the Forth Bridge had the longest single cantilever span in the world. The clearance beneath is 151 feet.
And it carries 190-200 trains per day between the Lothians and the Kingdom of Fife.

An impressive structure - dwarfs the little boats. It makes an interesting contrast - the massive result of technology above and the marshy, chaotic scene below.

Another very fine image from a braw day oot Ronnie in future you have to pick the day and date as it always ends up a good warm sunny day lol full of interest and detail the bridge is iconic for sure the modern versions existing and in progress cannot match the engineering and design of this structure. Next time we must try a pano of this structure I will upload a few of the church today at some point and I promise I will not tell every one that the king of flowers almost forgot to capture the fine ones at the church WinkTongueGrin

I heard a lot of talking about painting this bridge...I've never seen it for real.. interesting structure. Beautifully composed image, it must be difficult to compose it, as it's a very long bridge, but you make it more interesting by filling up your background and foreground.

Actually I was thinking about the fine sunny days you picked up.. because I saw some very gloomy pictures of this bridge, when it's under the sun, it's a different story.

A superb image of this famous bridge for which you have given us the facts - the most surprising
of which for me is the number of trains which use it everyday!
the wide angle allows us a good view of its situation and surroundings.
Glad your weather was kind.

A good composition here Ronnie, with the boats helping to show the scale of the bridge for anyone who hasn't actually seen it. I seen it several times, but always on the move, so not had the opportunity to photograph it! Smile

You certainly had better weather than when I was there Ronnie.
Good shot.
(I always fancied having a house below the bridge here.
Not so sure now though. If you were underneath it when you were there you
will have noticed how the ground ''shakes'' every time a train goes over the bridge !!)
