The Games People Play

By chase
This one speaks for itself really.

Taken in diffused daylight camera leftish against a dark bg.
3 frame HDR, combined in Lightroom, finished with a few tweaks in Photoshop.

I like the colours and the reflections on the board.

Thanks for taking the time to drop by.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.

Lovely arrangement Janet. The trivial Pursuit board holds it all together, the Yahtze box gives a splash of colour, balanced by the cards; the books under the chess set and the big die add height (even if not games) and their slightly battered appearance shows passing time (maybe?). And what's a still-life like this without a pair of old glasses?
Lovely soft light too. I like it a lot.

Love that big wooden dice (or is die?) on top of the books.
Terrific image, love it Smile

What a composition and it all comes together so well, brilliant image. Looks to be somebody's reflection in the glasses Janet, are you having a go at a still life selfie or have I gone completely doolally??😁😁😁!!!!! Nice one👍👍!!

I'm not convinced by the contrasting colours in this one Janet - the bold colours appear at odds - somehow too new in contrast to the books and chess set. Conceptually, it creates a narrative, but aesthetically I'm not sure...

Something old, something new. An interesting, eclectic mix of pastimes, Janet, however, I'm not sure that the books fit the rest of the subject matter. OK, I know why they are included, to add height and balance, but perhaps if you acquired another old game/box it may fit in better?

The resident ghost perhaps Smile

It wasn't until I read Adam's post that the more I looked the more I thought the books were out of character, of a much older vintage than the games.
I see they are useful to give some height in the composition and being more attractive than the boxes games come in. That's not to say I don't like the image, I do. But I'm thinking perhaps a book or to related to games, a 'How to play Chess' or a dictionary to go with a scrabble board. I'm sure you have, or have access to, something along those lines Janet, so maybe I've given you some more ideas to play around with.
Another thought, a dartboard in the background and some darts on the table.
And a glass of wine or whisky withe the chess set.
Brings back memories, a wonderful arrangement and image Janet.

Thanks all.
Carol, many thanks for your UA, very much appreciated.

The books are indeed older than the games, although Trivial Pursuit is older than I would like to admit. The Chess Board isn't new by any means, it belonged to my Grandfather, he actually made it.
I guess it's the mix including the plastic pieces which is causing the problems.

A dartboard behind is a good idea Keith, I must find one Wink

Brings back a few memories! Got to be able to beat my dad at chess, but when it came to playing against the computer, made me realise I'm rubbish! 😬 Ludo was about my level, but loved a game of cards... 😃 A wonderful arrangement and presentation, Janet 😃👍
