The Georgian landscape

By mrswoolybill
The Column to Liberty and an improvised game of cricket. Whig values at the very Whig estate of Gibside...
Thanks for looking,
Moira

From a bat and ball to a lifetime love, all because dad took the time...

Great shot that captures life without a tv screen...

The boy on the right is obviously expecting a bit hit.

...or...the collective shout of "'Owzat" as the ball removes the bails...

Looks like a rocket taking off from the depth of the forest! However, just a tranquil summer scene, with a game of cricket taking place. Good composition and tones, Moira.

Oh I love an image where children are being children! Lovely capture Moira and think that little batter has his eye on the camera not the ball!

Take care.

Cricket always makes me think of summer, but this wet weather still makes me think it's winter! 😲 A fine shot, with the figure looking down from his pedestal as if umpiring 😃👍

Thanks folks. Several people have cast the figure of Liberty as the umpire - I like that idea, I think the founders of the estate would have approved.

Lovely shot and so nice to see children playing and not sat in front of a computer.

Is there a danger that, from such a lofty eminence, the umpire might strike back? Very few journalists would have the capacity to knock out that many column inches.
Time's winged chariot hurries near and I need to get settled for Fawlty Towers.
A fine image! 😀 G
