The Gherkin

By ghibby
I braved the cold and shot this last Thursday, my hands virtually frozen to the camera after a couple of hours in this temperature!! The cloud cover was so low and this provided some very some interesting lighting conditions. In this shot which is not an HDR or tone mapped image in any way the buildings seem to have a glow around them, this is present in all RAW files and seems to be the reflection of the light emitted from the buildings windows diffusing into the misty low level clouds. At times on this shoot the clouds partially obscured the tops to the Gherkin and its neighbouring tower.

I processed the raw file to get a much detail from the building as possible, subsequently I used a global selective colour adjustment layer to balance the colour in the sky which had become a little muddy. Subsequently I re-processed the 16bit tiff file into ACR for a very subtle tweak to the fill lighting setting and to give the image even more bite.

Exposure 15sec @ F10.0 and ISO 100 Focal Length 24mm

Interesting image, lots of good light and I will admit, my first thought was "Its a HDR, and a good one too".

Super image, really like it, so good work.
