The Guildhall, St Ives

By TrevBatWCC
I splashed out and bought myself a slide & negative scanner to be able to digitise old photos & slides. Though I did quite recently upload some old prints, they were actual prints, and not having the negatives were scanned with my Epson printer/scanner.
Not the cheapest of scanners, but the purchase of the Plustek OpticFilm 8100 was I think a good choice and I'm very pleased with the results I've got. You can scan various sizes, up to 7200 dpi (fine for large poster-sized images) - this would produce a final file size of around 190 Mb! I've settled on 1800 dpi, which this image was scanned at. The software that comes with it offers loads of options and settings before you make the scan, and your image can be saved as Tiff, Jpeg, PSD, etc. So far, it does seem to give better results from negatives rather than my Kodachrome slides (this image is from a negative).
The only trouble is, unlike digital images which record Exif info, with many photos/slides I have, I can't remember when or where they were taken or with what camera! I only know this was St Ives 'cos it says on the board below the Tourist Information sign at the right-hand side, and would have been taken in 1995. (There is a clue with that Barbara Hepworth sculpture!)

Many thanks to Kath (cooky) for her User Award on my previous upload, Crown Court Yard revisited , most appreciated 🏆👍

Negative image scanned with Plustek OpticFilm 8100, tweaked in Nik Collection's plugins and Photoshop Elements 2020.

Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 😃👍

I bought an Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner some years ago, it's still going strong. I bought it because it will also do large negs as well as slides. My intention was to scan all my old negatives onto hard disk, but I still have hundreds if not thousands to do. I keep getting distracted by being retired!
Nice scan and image!
Fantastic result from your new kit Trev, lovely colourful image from a beautiful part of the country. Looking forward to seeing more images given a new lease of life.
