The Iron Harvest 2

By woolybill1
A clutch of shell cases disinterred from the Somme battlefields and displayed in the museum at Thiepval. Mostly 18pdr/77mm ('pipsqueaks' or 'whizzbangs', the smallest calibre field guns) but a few a bit larger, with the nose-cone of a mch bigger 'dud'. The display cases are set into the floor of the museum so the camera is looking down replicating the view of the discoverer.

Thanks for all the appreciation shown for Red Red Wine yesterday, especially to Andrew, Sylvia, Joline and Allan for their precious awards.

Even after all these years they still seem to be threatening and equally evil as when they were used...

It's the direction and quality of the light that makes this image, Bill.
Excellent composition too.

The seeds of destruction have been sown, the pods, although harmless, still
look menacing.

If it wasn't for their dark history, this would be a beautiful still life.

How much damage and deaths have they caused? The lighting has helped with the core of the shell's in darkness giving a menacing feel to them.

Great viewpoint, making it an intriguing image at first glance, and good abstract/pattern pic, Bill 👍

A very effective display-- also works well as an abstract!
