The King

By SteveMoulding
King Penguins are a subantarctic species, breeding on islands between 46 and 55 south. Small populations also occur as far north as the Falkland islands. 95% of the world's King Penguins are found south of the Antarctic convergence. King's are the second largest of the 18 different species of penguin, Emperor being the largest.
I think these are beautiful birds are very stately in their looks and the way they stand, very regal.
I hope you like these as much as I do. I don't expect they will do very well but I like them and thought they were worth uploading.
Many thanks for all the C&C's, they are very much appreciated.

Kings are my favourite penguins, I have had many happy hours in their company. However I am not aware that 95% of them occur south of the Antarctic circle, if fact I was not aware that there are any that far south, being almost completely subAntarctic. Some of the largest rookeries are on South Georgia, the rookery at Volunteer Pt in the Falklands is tiny by comparison. The two Antarctic species are the Emporer and the Adelie and the latter is now beginning to find life tough with worming on the Peninsula. That said, these are two fine photos, not easy to get the eye of a King to show so well in the dark plumage.

As you'll have noticed, clearly these images didn't do at all well!! Shows how wrong one can be, as they are superb. Detail and colour is spot-on and the poses are wonderful. Isn't he so very much the King in that stance? Guess that's a courtier bowing at his feet! Have so enjoyed seeing this, 2 very fine images.
