The long dark teatime of the soul

By Ericsamson
A young Arthur Dent learns very early on that not only is life nasty, brutish and short but is, moreover, a daily excursion into sorrow and disappointment. The absurdist sculptor, Enrico Samsonite - a tormented artist with any amount of baggage, has poignantly captured the moment at which the clearly distressed infant has not only dropped his 'Mr Whippy' * but has also been confronted by the horror that is a Sunday afternoon and 'the long dark teatime of the soul.'

With apologies and gratitude to Douglas Adams and the cavalcade of glorious silliness that is 'The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy' along with all the succeeding books as well as to John, Baron Digby of Sherborne and Earl of Bristol who departed this life in 1698 and from whose magnificent tomb in Sherborne Abbey this detail is taken.

*It is, perhaps, worth clarifying that this refers to a soft ice cream topping of a wafer cornet and not anything remotely salacious. 🥴

With thanks for the very kind responses to 'Sherborne Shadows 2' and in particular to Lin and Carole for their much appreciated awards. PMs to follow.

All the best for the week ahead, G. 🙂

Be yourself, everyone else is taken(Oscar wilde) Well there is only one Ericsamson and that's a benefit to all the mad people in this world. Another wonderful piece of nonsense Graham!

That moment when you share the showers in the tiddlywink clubhouse for the first time, and realise that perhaps size is going to matter after all...

Little 'Chubby Charlie' was unhappy with both life and with those he once trusted. Don't worry they said ( Pah ! ), as you get older the mole under your right eye will diminish and the magnitude of your man parts will improve....they lied !

Ten years of being stood in this corner and the only times people remarked 'look at the size of that one' they were pointing at his mole.

Nice one Sir G ! Smile So many comments could accompany this little ( and it really is little, poor chap) gem, but alas no time, no time.!Sad

A wonderful sculpture, even if the subject needed to have a cry whilst posing... 😃 Great capture too, Graham 👍
