The Lost Tunnel of Astley Green

By johnriley1uk
This prefab building, looking very much like a tunnel, illustrates how we gain and we lose. It was at Astley Green Colliery Museum, before the latest drive to make the museum more viable and visitor-friendly. We could happily potter in and around all the detritus, no doubt giving Health & Safety a few bad moments as we went, but it was open, free and fascinating. Now this particular corner is closed off and full of storage, much safer no doubt, but another avenue of pleasure removed......Ah well, without change there would be no museum going forwards, so we gain, we lose and we live with it.

A hotchpotch of detritus, and can see how the H&E would not be happy. It looks a very solid tunnel, reminds of the cross-channel!
