The Meeting Place 3

The next panel on the frieze caught my eye because one of my ancestors was a plate layer, the term used for a railway worker. He probably worked laying the tube tracks on the District Line extension into Essex over which I have travelled many times.

One has to admire the men who toiled so hard to shift tons of materials along the underground tunnels and then out through the countryside in all weathers. This depiction is a fitting tribute to them all.
