The Milky Way above the Taemas Bridge, Wee Jasper Road, New South Wales

By BobinAus
One of the pleasures of living in the Southern Hemisphere is the spectacular appearance of the Milky Way (a spectacle that I appreciate all the more since having cataracts removed).

The Taemas Bridge spans the Murrumbidgee River about 20kms south of the small township of Yass. After a dry summer, the river is very shallow and narrow within its broad bed. A friend and I were able to stand right under the bridge and capture its silhouette against the bright galaxy and the yellow glow of Canberra's lights in the south east.

I have neither the skills nor the equipment to make the best of this scene and this image certainly won't bear 'pixel peeping' but I think its worth displaying, for the sight of the Milky Way alone.

Thanks very much, Pablo, for your comment about the picture and the info about the camera. I'll try a few more star shots especially during the clear winter nights which are not too long away now, before I spent any money on a specialised camera. Cheers, Bob
