The Old Brewery

By AlfieK
Couldn't go for my early morning swim in Hertford, so decided to walk round the town with my camera - this is the original McMullens Brewery, a new one having been built across the road on the right. It has been disused for many years now and, being listed, has just finished undergoing repair work. I've always loved the look of this building, unlike the monstrosity of the new brewery and supermarket that has been added at the rear.

I'm a great fan of the businesses that make a point of taking over listed buildings and keeping them going. Waterstones are I believe noted for this; your photo reminded me of the branch in central Newcastle, perhaps a contemporary although considerably more elaborate.
A very good architectural photo.

From the days when industrial buildings had style and class. There's pastiche just about everything in this, all piled up in a jumble, but it's a building that's worth flying a flag from!
