The Olive Press, Mountanistika

By Scutter
[Its been a loooong time since I have posted a picture on here. Life is finally returning to normal after several years and I have rediscovered my photographic mojo!]

This is a shot from my recent trip to Greece. Moundanistika (or Mountanistika) is a virtually deserted village deep in the Outer Mani. This is from the old Olive Oil Factory.

Quite why there is a village built apparently as late as the 1880's in such an inaccessible spot is beyond me and why an olive oil factory is even more baffling. Equally I can find no reason for its short lived existence (apart from its inaccessibility). However it afforded me some wonderful photographic opportunities even if the journey there was a little hair-raising as it is reached by a narrow hairpin road with precipitous drops.

Makes me think of a Aztec calendar stone; has a monumental feel to it.
