The Pergola Clematis

By pamelajean
A big thankyou to Ronnie (RonnieAG), Neil (NeilWigan), Maureen (Paree), and Ken (franken) for their very valued User Awards on my yellow roses, "Symbol of Friendship".

I have been overwhelmed by your response to my flower manipulations, and maybe I'll come back to them some time, but now I am attempting to gently wean myself off uploading any more, and am starting with a wonderful show of purple clematis from the immaculate West Dean Gardens, Chichester, West Sussex, situated in the rolling folds of the South Downs National Park, on the River Lavant, founded by Edward James.

This 300ft-long pergola is the masterwork of the garden designer Harold Peto. It's a massive stone and timber covered walkway, a perfumed promenade, with a pond and little building at the end. V2 gives you a little better insight into its beauty.

Pamela.

The flash in V 1 has brought all the detail and wonderful colour in that splendid clematis which has been captured at it's very best.
And V 2 shows off the structure of the pergola very nicely, Pamela.
So many photo opportunities there, I'd guess, these two just whetting the appetite for more?Wink

V2 my preference here. It's more austere, linear, I like the sense of recession from the camera; plus the petunias aren't so in-your-face. Lovely complementary colours!

v1 is a very good image of the flower, but v2 is a beautifully balanced image. Love the composition with the journey down the pergola to the window, natural framing on the sides, and a glimpse of the house on the right. The flowers on the pillar on a third are perfectly placed. v2 is a beauty.

Two super shots.Hard choice between the two! V2 takes us nicely along the path, but I love the lighting on the lovely clematis in V1. Must be gorgeous gardens.

I really want to visit West Dean, but it's a couple of hours drive from where I live. I love v2 which shows the pergola and the clematis off to their best advantage. v1 isn't too dusty either!! Smile

Wonderful colours, light and shadows in these Pamela, both are fine compositions and worthy of an upload. I think v2 just edges it but v1 shows the climbing clematis at its best

Looks a splendid and well presented garden here Pamela.
Just a pity some heavyweight sod with hobnailed boots
must have cracked all the garden path when walking over it !!
