The Picnic

By woolybill1
An idiosyncratic statue in Oslo's Vigeland Park. The words “baby” and “bathwater” come to mind.

Makes one wonder what inspired the sculpter here, Bill!

Nice crop. I like the curious scene framed by the statue and shadow. What are they doing?

This was a popular sculpture. I liked the fact that the baby's arm had been polished through hundreds of people gripping it for a moment. Lots of them did while I walked by.

Err ... babies and bathwater weren't necessarily what I was thinking about here ... Grin Wink

Mind you, it's a beautifully juxtaposed scene with the people 'through the legs' as it were. We probably wouldn't be allowed to have a statue like that in this country ... politically incorrect, to say the least Grin

Baby, bathwater. My first thought too. What a strange thing. Quite horrid really. And it looks like the sculptor ran out of materials before it was finished. Wink

Yeah, I thought that too ... the sculptor really should have put a nappy on that child - honestly, what's the world coming to?! Grin

Interesting indeed. A veritable pied a l'enfant, or should that be a foten barn?

Well that one's different. what an odd sculpture, i'm sure there must be an interesting story
to go with it. Excellent use of it as a frame for the background activity.

An interesting variation on "Keepy-uppy."
Is this perhaps the origin of the expression "a bouncing baby boy"?
Staggering Statue! Clever framing ,,,,but staggering statue!
