The Poser..

By rogerfry
A long tailed shrike in Tarangire National Park, Tanzania. v1 was taken at 300mm, v2 at 210, and v3 at 100 to show the setting. Maybe some photoshop guru could do a mod to make the eye more lively?

Alexa, thank you for your comments.
It's not actually a crop,as all versions are full frame as taken, but I think I used too low a quality setting when uploading!

Roger, those are wonderful. Have you tried increasing the light in the shaded areas? Just a touch, because I think you might make the eye more visible. They would stand out more if you gave 'highlights' a tweak as well. V1 is really outstanding, especially viewed large. All great pictures of this very attractive bird.

A gorgeous image - well caught.

I hope my 'mod' has done it justice. I used the 'dodge' tool to gently lighten the catch lights already there (by zooming right in and lightening the paler pixels in the iris). I also adjusted the lighting/contrast a tiny bit (taking out some of the red). Then a little bit of a sharpen and voila! Smile

Neil, thanks for the input....I'll have a go.

Karen, thank you for the mod. At least he looks as if he can see now!

Roger, I didn't have a chance earlier. I have uploaded a mod, very similar to Karen but I have taken some of the brightness out of the background as well.

Regards

Neil
