the Principle of Diminishing Returns

By MichaelBilottaPhotography
I was thinking about a few things when making this. This was another stream of consciousness approach where I started with nothing and added and removed elements to see where it would take me. It evolved fairly quickly into a satirical take on the law or principle of diminishing returns, and I was thinking mainly about agriculture, where we are engineering our food to be larger and larger, but losing a lot in the process, and possibly risking our collective health. But this concept of enhancement and augmentation also speaks to the human condition where we witness the fruits of our youth falling away over time, and the vitality and health give way to ailments and eventually death.

So while this was meant to be light-hearted and satirical, it still has its fangs in my constant companion - the woes of fading youth!

Indeed a satirical slant, yet at the same time an issue which may raise more than one eyebrow in the halls of power.

Thanks Nathan, I was watching Invasion of the Body Snatchers a few days ago, so maybe that had a hand in this too Smile

Invasion of the Body Snatchers is that not just a simile to mask what is really happening. We have no independence as we once new it, freedom of speech is a joke, and CCTV is becoming more invasive as each day passes. Our bodies are truly being snatched from within us.

Wow! Some deep thinking going on here! Absolutely LOVE the end result! Any chance you can divulge a few "secrets" to us? Wink
Hi Shaph,

Well, I was thinking this one might be good fodder for a tutorial blog - I do them occasionally on my website - so I think that may have to be posted soon once I make it!

For now though - it involved one model shot, two shots of a red apple, three leaves against white paper, some branches that were against sky, a boring field of dandelions, and a nice cloudy sky shot I took in September. The rest is all masking masking masking, levels, curves, and more masking Smile

if you want some masking tips, until I do this one, I have a video up on my blog at: www.michaelbilotta.com/blog

Cheers!
definitely true Nathan, the freedoms we have were stolen or never existed, and we are all trying to be the same it seems Smile
