The Red Coat.

By Tooma
This is one of the oldest digital shots I have; taken with an early smart-phone, a Nokia Xpress Music 5800 with a max rez of 3.2Mb, which I have bumped up to about 9Mb in edit. Taken April 2012.

The location is Glasgow Cathedral, also know as St Mungo's after the Patron Saint of the city, whose tomb rests in the church. The lady in my shot is Mo, and I just loved the juxtaposition and scale. Not the best of shots, but it still turned out better than expected, being low light and hand held.

"Saint Mungo is the Patron Saint of Glasgow and also known as Kentigern who is believed to have been born and brought up in Culross in Fife. Mungo is believed to have began his Christian Ministry at aged 25 around the year 540. Mungo established himself in Glasgow living a simple life beside a tributary known as the Molendinar and Mungo set up his Church which is the site of Glasgow Cathedral. Glasgow Cathedral is also the burial place for Saint Mungo."

I am a sucker for anything red in a picture and even more so, when it is in a vast area. It becomes the main focal point. When it is lonesome figure it gives scale to vastness of the cathedral. Very good for in the speed of the changing mobile World now a vintage phone! I like it!

Terrific image and historical narrative Tom , Mo is a standout in the brightly contrasting coat , looks as if you pushed the huge 3.2 to the limit !

Nicely done. Love the impact of the red against the expanse of the building.

A very impressive shot Tom - remarkable what 'old' technology could do! The light, textures and sense of space have been very nicely captured and the red coat makes it! SmileSmileSmile
