Beside the River Wear at Sunderland, a haunting sculptural installation depicts a ruined house, with abandoned possessions still lying as they were when the owners fled.
The work was carved in situ from large blocks of red sandstone by Colin Wilbourn and Karl Fisher in the 1990s. They gave no explanation, but it is widely interpreted as referring to WW2 air raids.
