The Rook ( Corvus frugilegus )

By DaveNewbury
Bare, greyish-white face, thinner beak and peaked head make it distinguishable from the carrion crow. Rooks are very sociable birds and you're not likely to see one on its own. They feed and roost in flocks in winter, often together with jackdaws.
Rooks will eat almost anything, including worms, grain, nuts and insects, small mammals, birds (especially eggs and nestlings) and carrion. At the moment they have found our bird feeders, and every day they eat everything we put out , we may have to do some crowd funding to pay for the food.
Thanks to Mike Smith for his much appreciated award and to all the V's & C's on my Longtailed tit Dave

When looked at close up the colours and textures come through beautifully; a lovely image. Thanks also for the ID notes - very helpful to those of us who get easily baffled!
