The Sergeant

Good evening all!

Popped into a pub I drive past every saturday on the way to Gabriel's drum lessons. I particularly liked the sign on this one. The landlord was intersted in what I was doing and invited me in to take more pictures. It was empty, as it was early, but I noticed a sign in the window V2 showing how strongly the landlord felt about closing down.

I thought the typical pub carpet should also be recorded for posterity!

Wow...good for the owner. We need more of the old guard in this world, willing to stand up for what is valuable in more than monetary units.

Great set of shots Tony - they need to stand up and speak out, there will be no pubs left at this rate.

Unfortunately economics will decide that one, So much greed now from everyone above in the chain, little pubs like this can not survive unless they have a good customer base.

Still putting up a good fight, then. Lovely sign, and I agree about the carpet, typical pub floor and I hope it stays that way.

Looks magnificent, Tony; the landlord sounds just like one of the Old Contemptibles like my grand'dad. A great sign and a typical pub building/layout. You record a lot more detail than I do; must try harder...
Only two more pub signs till Christmas!

The Old Serge as we know it, I remember going in here first when we were teenagers, still looks the same! Good old proper boozer, well recorded for prosperity with the super set of images. Carpet looks familar too! Wink

What a great set of images that tell us so much about this pub. They all made me feel nostalgic - but the image of that carpet really made me smile!

Loving the pics, looks like a lovely old fashioned pub. Don't find many of these about nowadays! Good job they're making a stand against pub closures too many are being forced to close but it's nice to see somewhere willing to put up a fight!
