That has quite surreal feel to it.

This does have a surreal feel. The sky and sand are very similar in tone, how do you convert to b&w? Do you have colour channels to play with? Lightening substantially on cyan and blue could give greater clarity in the sky as a contrast to the sand.

Thanks for the feedback - editing is definitely an area whereby I need to focus more effort despite my dislike of sitting behind a computer. Your critique of any of my images will always be welcome.

You could consider ticking the critique wanted box when you upload. That disables votes and awards, but puts the picture into the Critique Gallery where it will receive detailed advice, and we can illustrate possible modifications to processing.
