The Singer

By chase
A charity shop visit resulted in me purchasing this beautiful manually operated Singer sewing machine and it's wooden cover Smile

It was in a bit of a state but a gentle clean, treatment to the wood and the removal of several layers of parcel tape were worth the trouble to bring out the colours. I managed to re-apply some of the loose veneer on the cover and mended the locking mechanism.
A beautiful thing with lots of history and, it works so very well.

I combined it with my pinking machine here ( coz I like the two wooden handles Wink ) and some bits and bobs I discovered in the little box on the side of the machine.

A 3 frame HDR image, lit by available daylight, combined in Lightroom, finished with a light texture behind in Photoshop.

Thanks for dropping by.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.
There may well be a B&W frame hidden in there somewhere too Wink

Lovely capture of this beautiful machine. My mum had one and she made all the dresses for my two sisters and I on it. When we were older, in the sixties, we used it to make our own clothes, brings back many memories. I think one of my sisters still has it.

Wonderful retro image Janet. When I was very young my mum used an old treadle Singer machine for all her sewing jobs. Nice!

I remember my granny having one similar to this, and same brand. It was incorporated into a table with sets of drawers either side, and had a treddle near the floor in the centre to operate it. When not in use, it folded down so the whole top could be used as a table 😃
A lovely presentation here, Janet 👍

Your restoration is impressive. Worthy of being on display in a quilting museum.

My grandmother had something similar, but with a treadmill. I gave it to my daughter. I hope she still has it. A lovely image you've created here Janet.

I used to have one of these years ago, never used it but it would have made a great ornament if only I had had the room for it.
Sold it at a car boot Sad

Thanks all.
My Nana used to have one with the treddle too, wherever it went I don't know, a wonderful thing with drawers and a big wheel at the side that I spent many happy hours playing with as a nipper.....hmm, a few trapped fingers if I remember the pain rightly Wink

Smashing! Coincidentally, I have just put my sewing machine away having had it out to take up some trousers. Mind you it is a cheap plastic something-or-other, not a gorgeous thing like this.

Takes me back to the days of the 1940's when the radio, books and hobbies were normal - no televisions. Saturdays were a treat - mussels with bread and marg (butter being rationed) at Grandma's home. Mother played the piano, we read books, Grandma on the Singer treadle sewing machine making or repairing clothes. Such things are past memories and your picture recalls them to my mind.
