The Smarts Circa 1900

By Andysnapper

Now, I know I'm getting on a bit but I didn't actually take this one. This is my Great Grandparents Frederick and Selina Smart outside their grocers shop in Hanley, Stoke on Trent. I'm in the process of making a book of my family's history and I have scanned in a lot of old photos of my mum and dad's and believe this is the oldest one, from , we think, 1900.
I just thought it might make a change from the new stuff.

An amazing historical shot... Those were the days... Real people who talked to you at the shop!
Today ... bips of self pay machines that make me leave the shoping behind when they misbehave...
Wonderful image and I like Frederick's moustache!
