The South Cliffs: Portpatrick.

By Tooma
I was reminded of some shots of Portpatrick I had not looked at for a time, by Dave Ryder mentioning his fondness for the area. This is the path atop the cliffs which run southwards from the village. We stopped before reaching Dunskey Castle to save that for another day, so hopefully we shall return.

Dunskey Castle is pretty old, going back to the 14th century. It should make some great shots with a setting sun behind it. Smile

Some of my shots noticeably lose sharpness when I upload them; anyone know if there is anything I can do to improve this?

I did not notice loss of sharpness--what I did see was a castle I would LOVE to explore!

A place I would love to visit, Tom - a well composed and taken shot.
I think we'll be taking quite a few 'virtual walks', like this one, over the next few weeks!!

A beautiful capture of this lovely Scottish coast , Tom , just read some interesting recent history on how the locals saved the harbour .

We stayed there many a year ago and my images from that visit were from a batch I lost due to a computer crash. I am sure they were all winners! Now I do a lot of backing-up. Good image, and using the path to lead you towards the castle and beyond.
If using Photoshop I always do a slight sharpening on my images before saving.
I use "smart sharpen" from Filter/Sharpen Menu.
Amount: 100. Radius: 1.5. Noise:18.
There is also an option over Shadows & Highlights as well in the same menu,
Something you can play about with, Tom.

@mac - Thanks, Ian. I almost always do some sharpening too before saving - only difference - I use Affinity. Yes backing up is defo worth doing - mine is running now - except when it interferes with my keyboard(BT) - wish I knew how to prevent that happening. Magnetic shield for my ext drive?
Portpatrick - yes - I would happily move there; a favourite wee village, and coastline. I don't get there anywhere near often enough. Smile

Deep joy Tom! wonderful escapism, lovely tones and a cracking composition. Almost as good as being there!
Have a gong old fruit!
Take care both of you, G. 😀 👍 🏆
