That's a lovely shot, Bob, very nicely balanced between the foreground and the fainter light of the sky. An enviable image.

Thanks Ken. Yes, the Milky Way is a sight to remember and I'm very lucky to have such a view so close to home.

Thanks Robert. While I've only dabbled with night-sky photography thus far, I'm looking forward to doing more of it with the Kp and Pentax's new wide angle zoom.
Cheers,
Bob

Great shot and detail in that Milky Way. I also like the choice of colour balance not too warm -Andy 😊

A nicely balanced image with the light on the church and the composition you have chosen. A great bit of astro photography. I must try it myself soon, yours and Legend 147's recent shot have inspired me!

Thanks for your comment, Andy. I'm glad you like the picture.

Yes, setting the colour of the Milky Way is a tricky subject. I have found that if I set the white balance to around 3,900K as several night-sky photographers who are based in the northern hemisphere have recommended, the result appears way too blue. About 4,300K seems to strike the right balance between warm and cold blue colours for me. I wonder if this is simply my subjective preference or if it also reflects a difference in the colours that are actually visible down here in the Southern Hemisphere compared to the skies visible from above the equator? Differences in display calibration could also have an effect but I don't think that's a major issue here. I've posted a second night sky picture in my portfolio https://www.ephotozine.com/user/bobinaus-280226/portfolio (but not here in the e'zine gallery because it has a couple of technical flaws). This second shot is of a more eastern part of the Milky Way and appears much more yellow but has exactly the same temperature and tint as the Currawong picture above. However, a confounding and warming factor in the second shot is light pollution from towns located on the other side of the hills. In short - I dunno!Blush

Thanks very much, Walt. I'm just waiting for the new moon and cloudless skis before going prowling at night again.

Bob
