The strap

By saltireblue
Still in York, but this time at the magnificent NRM (National Railway Museum).

A detail from a 1st Class carriage from the year dot. Taken through a closed and dirty window...

The leather strap is used to lift and lower the window. The stud is used to secure the strap via holes - like a vertical belt. The more mature members may well remember this arrangement from the days when the railway was steam-powered and went under the name of British Railways. Not Virgin, or whatever.

Many thanks for your comments on my previous upload, all are appreciated, especially those from Yorkshire membersSmile

Thanks for bothering

Had me worried for a minute Malc.
I thought this was your Jock strap here.
So glad it isn't.
You would give us Scotsmen a bad name with it being so small !!
A nice textured shot.

Beautifully photographed. I love the well worn look and can imagine the thousands of people that handled it. Top shot.

Indeed, it brings back memories, Malc: the patina of dust on top of the general decay makes for an interesting study in detail, tones but especially textures.

Great image Malc, great tones and texturesSmile

Oh I recall the leather strap and letting the window down to receive a face full of soot and cinders, especially if passing under a bridge.

Sounds like the "Railway Children".
