My father with his team of horses. He worked in the woods with my grandfather cutting and hauling out pulp wood for paper mills and birch for the wooden spoon and spool industry, both of which were made in the nearby town.Amazing what was made of wood then, those little wooden ice cream spoons, wooden forks, cocktail stirrers, shoe lasts, spools of all sizes to name a few.
All those little things that used to be made of wood...now plastic. It seemed a waste of trees....but it is miles better than plastic, at least the wood is biodegradable.
Great image Joline :D
