The tower and the pumpkin

By KingBee
In a rare departure from type (I abandoned selective colouring years ago as too gimmicky/time-consuming) I felt in this case the only way to highlight the pumpkin was to colour it, which I did on a separate layer. It'll work for people or it won't. The original was shot last November on a loaned Fuji X-T3/10-24 combo.

Huge thanks to Barry, Alex and Arne for their very kind UAs for "Langkawi jetty", and, of course, to all others for their interest in, and appreciation of, that image.

I'm inclined to agree, Bob, about selective colouring. It worked brilliantly in Shindler's List, but seems to have been overdone since. However, I can see why you did this and it is restrained and well composed. That lens is a cracker and draws this image a treat; hope you're enjoying your new one.

No mistaking where the pumpkin is, Bob. Wink

Selective colour (I really hate the expression colour-popping) has been massively over-used but it can have its uses, when it highlights something genuinely significant. I do like this, and I can well imagine that in all colour (or all b&w) the genuinely significant detail might be overlooked.

Lovely desaturation with a clever use of selective colour -this works for me

echoing others: it works rather well and, repeating after Isabel, offers a lovely pumpkin surprise 🎃
meanwhile the tower image itself is great in its own right..

Not usually a fan of "colour popping", in this instance, I think it works well. I love the composition - great mono and the pumpkin ideally placed in the frame.

I think in this case, you can be excused for using selective colour. But only because you shoot Fuji, and we can do no wrong.Tongue
It looks as if it has been left as an offering, or peace offering to whoever lives up the stairs...
