I wish it was my walk home as I would love one of those last houses on the left on the canal side! Maybe a Narrow boat would be a good option too!
It was the woman and the child with his school bag. Reminded me of a scene from Happy Valley with Catherine picking up Ryan from school and walking home. This is taken in the Calder Valley where the series was filmed.

Have you tried cropping a bit tighter, top and left? Without the tree line at the top it seems more intimate, concentrated to me.

The valley is very deep sided and continues in that fashion up through Hebden to Halifax. It provides some lovely shadows before the sun goes behind the hills so a big thank you to Mother Nature!
