The way of the west

By mlseawell
The beginning of a 10 mile hike with my wife and another couple we are dear friends with. As I was just about to start I noticed the billowing clouds over the human figure on the ridge on the right known as the "Priest" and the rocks to his left are the nuns. The lone rock on the left is known as castle rock. This image doesn't give the viewer the perspective of just how MASSIVE these titans are, overlooking the entire valley and how massive the clouds were as we started our hike in Castle Valley. Moments like this capture the heart of what we love about the land, timeless in its beauty and immutable as it changes every day in ways beyond our perception...the way of the west.

Love this part of the world and you've captured it's essence here really nicely with the big sky and subtle shadows on the terrain. The big bird of prey just ices the cake. Beautiful - very much makes me want to go back!

Thanks Steve! It went so fast, always does but I'm already looking forward to returning south in July to Grand Staircase-Escalante (or whats left of it). I feel very lucky to live where I live.

A really beautiful mono landskape Mark. Love the light and the sky, and the bird really give life to the picture.
Good work!
