The Wheatsheaf

By redstag
Another from my home village.
The most important part of any village has to be the church, no hang on, the post office. Oh no sorry, the Pub! We have two in Cropwell, this is the older of the two and as should be expected has legends associated with it. My youngest son tells me a famous robber stayed here, 'Do you mean **** Turpin?' I asked, and he said that he thought that was his name. This is the type of tireless research that has made Wikipedia such a fount of all knowledge!

I also believe that this was the Pub Chris was talking about in his comment yesterday, we have shared a pint or two in here!

The landlord at this pub doesn't change very often. The current one runs a Chinese Restaurant in a room upstairs, you have to book a long way in advance, and you get a full banquet as a private party. It works really well, and he isn't a bad cook either.

The other pub is a different story for another day!

You got your priorites right Jon definately the pub amazing what you find on the tinternet

Quote:The oldest of the public houses in the village is The Wheatsheaf, the building dating from the 1600ís. The Chequers is much newer and a third pub, The Plough and Harrows, was situated on Stockwell Lane and is now the house with the flat roof, the original roof having been destroyed in a fire. This pub used to function as a beer and wine retailer as well as a pub.

Thanks Bri, I didn't find anything so interesting, so I have to rely on my son's history of the village! LOL.
