The wheels

By brownsilent
One of the most famous places in the Black Forest, the "Hexenlochmuehle" - translation: "The witches' hole mill".
The witches' hole is a dark, narrow valley, in the innermost Black Forest. These days it is a touristical place, with souvenir shops and a good restaurant. The saw-mill was built in 1825, the big wheel (4m diametre) is still working and drives two engines.

This is a lovely composition, and in particular a lovely colour composition - grey, green and red, very satisfying. I love the red window frames and geraniums.
Plus, fascinating story, and it's good to see the wheels still working.

I'm always interested in mills as we live on an old mill site-- the foundation and water works remain--It was both a grain and saw mill--

this one is very different in appearance---A well done image--Thanks for sharing this one!

Quote:isn't any added ugly tourist walkway and rails

Though the owners make their living from tourists, this place, like many others in the Black Forest are still not overrun and thus looking very traditional in their natural habitat.
