The Xmas visitors. V1 - Fieldfares on ice.

By accipiter
Thanks for the CCs for the Xmas landscapes on the farm. Much appreciated.
Xmas day was freezing (v1)with a thick frost on all the plants. My cousin has some bird feeders outside the kitchen window which were dominated all day by a group of about fifty goldfinch and a few Greenfinch (v2 and v3)
Plenty of other visitors came to look for the pickings of fallen food below the feeders and I spent a couple of pleasant hours inside the house taking pictures through the double glazing - so apologies for the not quite sharp pics with a strange bokeh.
V4 to v10 were all visitors and I missed some too, including doves, pigeon and pheasant.
It is very hard for small birds to survive very severe weather and without feeders to provide energy requirements I am sure many would die. Each upload is labelled.
Hope you enjoy them as I did. A

Splendid series and a lovely commentary. We are feeding the locals too, and we have our regulars, the most colourful being a lesser spotted woodpecker.

A wonderful collection of shots. I love V2, such lovely colours. The robin and wagtail are also in my favourites. Costs me as much to feed the birds as to feed us Wink. All the best for 2011. Moira

A delightful set! Love that rather grumpy look on the face of the lower little visitor in V1, though who could blame it! Had to completely re-fill all the seed feeders this afternoon which I take to be a bad sign re the coming weather!

An excellent set of images. It looks like you have next year's Xmas cards sorted.

I particularly like V5. You can almost hear him thinking "Go ahead worm, make my day. Stick your head up". Smile
Excellent themed set. Details and colors are amazing.

Wow... wonderful set, great pleasure to view,Beautiful colour and light. Strange to say, the glass gives a kind of soft beauty of the images, not only about the birds but also about the cold and white (unforgettable) environment of the(this) year. Looking forward to seeing more your new uploadings.
BTW, thank you for your helpful comments on my photo.

A great set of photos in snow and ice. In Australia its quite hot and Queensland is flooded. Still we are enjoying birding. Cheers Boyd

Happy new year! I was surprised to see a few redwings in our garden on the edge of Leeds a few days ago. Never seen them before in my life.
