Theatre at last

By bliba
Life is returning to the stages - also in Vienna. The capital has changed over the Corona months.,the silent city seemed eerie, like a leftover film set from "The Third Man".

Sometimes you only miss something when it is no longer accessible. That's how it was for me with Vienna.
A fortnight ago I was finally back in Vienna, and it was almost more beautiful than I remembered. On the one hand, this could be because what you had to do without for a while seems more valuable. On the other hand, it was probably because Vienna was at most half as crowded as usual in winter.
We strolled through the impressive parcours, over the Heldenplatz, through the Volksgarten to the artist's entrance of the Burgtheater.

Both the Hofburg and the Burgtheater stand out from a time when Austria was still ruled by an emperor and the Spanish flu soon took away more people than Covid-19 will. Because today people are just wiser -.

The last time I went to the Burgtheater was in 2019. I only realised how much I missed it , as I walked into the aisles of the Burgtheater, where I saw smiling eyes behind breathing masks, anticipating the upcoming play .....and when I sat on my assigned seat and saw the stage and the many visitors ...I got goosebumps with joy

When you're really annoyed by the circumstances that life or a virus forces you into, it's always worth thinking about whether other people have it worse. For example, I was able to continue working, got my salary transferred, . In contrast, many actors and actresses, the directors and dramaturges, the make-up artists and stage managers could only watch time passing more and more slowly.

Now, however, not only art but life is returning to the theatres and that is a good thing.

Excellent photo as usual, with great use of the light, and your celebration clearly comes from the heart.
But I doubt whether I will ever feel safe or comfortable among so many people again.

Excellent write up, and if we are reading it and looking at your image it means we are still here, and we have to be thankful, no matter how our lives have changed.

And all the men and women merely players...

Good picture: usual Oliver standard. Better text, which is reflective, passionate and humane.

I think we can all echo your notes, Oliver. Do we see an end in sight, or at least a let-up?
A lovely image to go with your comments.

I fell the same . Love theater…we belong to a “subscription” theater here in Philadelphia, and it has started up again….and with my wife being in chemo….she can not go, and I am very hesitant….thinking we will view it via video streaming…a distinct second best…but safer.

A powerful and suggestive photo, Oliver.
