Very well done Lin - that can't have been easy seating him and keeping some stones in front of the leg was clever.
The image evokes great sadness for him.
I'd love to have seen the original image from the War Museum.
Take a bow - an excelent manipulation.

Rather incredible to think Lin,
that next year marks the 100th anniversary for the start of World War One.
My father was born in 1901 and he went along to the recruiting office as a 13 year old boy.
Needless to say, they burst out laughing and sent him home.
I just wonder if the would have ''pushed him through'' had he been 16 year old though !!

If this is your first go with layers as you say, then you have done exceptionally well, Lin. A great piece of work that looks SO natural. Keep up the good work SmileSmileSmile

It's very well done for a first time, Lin, I am very impressed, and I like your choice of subjects for the amalgamation.
The only things missing are shadows.

You already have the light seen on your subjects correct, in other words their shaded sides are on the right, so that's the first hurdle overcome.
But you have light coming into the cave from the left (as well as from the front), and the pieces that you inserted into the scene would have shadows showing on the rocks, going off to the right. They don't have to be too strong. In fact, the light coming through the background arch is a lot brighter.
It's not easy, but I use the burn tool at low opacity and simply follow the shapes of the objects.
Alternatively, the shadows can be created on the objects prior to merging your layers. In PSP, it's under Effects>Drop Shadow.
