Thirlmere, which supplies Manchester at 40% full

By philtaylorphoto
11 September 2021 Thirlmere Reservoir, Cumbria. On Thursday 9 September customers of United Utilities who supply water to the North West of England were baffled when they received an email asking them to use less water as reservoirs were lower than normal for this time of year. This seemed unusual as visitors to the UU website were greeted with a splash screen telling them what do do in case of flooding as torrential rain was forecast. Around Manchester, and in the Pennines levels are healthy, but Haweswater and Thirlmere, which were built by Mabchester Waterworks in 1896 only have 40% left, with Thirlmere being over 8 Metres below full level This time last year they were 80% full.
