My first attempt at this type of shot so any critique would be much appreciated.

I like the way you have seen this - looking for the picture rather than the obvious view. Details floating in a sea of red mist.
For it to work for me, it needs the anthers ( the bits that lie in an irregular circle around the middle) to be sharp as well as the stigma (the middle bit), and it needs all of the anthers to be visible, whereas some are clipped here. So move back a tiny bit - that will increase your depth of field, probably enough to get all the anthers sharp, otherwise f11; and then crop to square. That would actually accentuate the irregular placement. Well that's how I see it, but this sort of image is very personal.

Hi Mrswoolybill,

Thanks so much for your critique and advice. I realised afterwards that it would look better with all the little bits in the frame. As far as getting them in focus along with the stigma.... well lets just say I'm happy the stigma is in focusGrin. I will definitely attempt to put all of your advice into practice. This macro stuff isn't as easy as it looks lolBlush. Once again thank you very much your for thoughts and advice.

I agree with Moira. The centre is very nicely focused, and to get the other bits would need extra small aperture, and moving back. The act of moving back, by the way, increases you depth of field, even at the same aperture, - a tip for the next shot.

Ive just bought that same lens, - its excellent.

Ive loaded a mod to show what might have been.

regards

Hi Banehawi,

Very nice mod. That's the kind of image that I was and am hoping to create. Thanks for taking the time to show me the possibilities after some practice. I must admit though I do need a lot a practiceGrin. Yes it is an excellent lens and the price that henry's was offering it at I couldn't pass it up.

I like this almost as is. For me, just the stamen sharp is enough, but it would be nice to have the full circle of black dots there, slightly out of focus. Very well done and use of shallow depth. I have the older Tamron 90 SP used on the EOS manually with an adapter. Quality is as good as many modern lenses, better than some.
