Time to leg it!

By TrevBatWCC
My last upload from my Isle of Man holiday back in March. Spotted this on a sweet shop door, where I went in to buy an ice cream, then went off to sit and devour it on Ramsey's promenade 🍦😋 Shortly after, it was 'time to leg it' back to the coach parked up nearby for our return to Douglas.
It's going to be back through the archives, and some digital fiddling about, from now on for my EPZ uploads 😬

Many thanks to Colleen, Kate (Irishkate) and Dave (HobbitDave) for their User Awards on my previous upload, 'When I Grow Up' , most appreciated 🏆👍

Raw image processed in Nikon Capture NX-D, mono conversion in Nik Collection's Silver Efex Pro 2, and tweaked Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 😀👍

The legs are usually seen to run clockwise and carry the Latin motto 'Quocunque Jeceris Stabit' meaning 'it will stand whichever way you throw it' a reference to the independence and resilience of the Manx people.T
Had to look that up Trev as I didn't know what the legs represented. You probably told us in one of your earlier
narratives.
A very distinctive symbol well recorded here Trev.

I am glad 'Irishkate' looked up what the legs meant, I have always wondered.

Really enjoyed your visit to Isle of Man.

Stay safe and well.

Have you by any chance seen the Last of the Summer Wine episode, The Loxley Lozenge? It includes Clegg's immortal 'Hitler was an Ovaltinee' monalogue, which traces the swastika back to Eva Braun's holiday souvenir brooch from the Isle of Man...

Great capture, made me smile. I too wondered what the legs meant.

For anyone who is a 'Summer Wine' fan there is a scene in the early episode 'The Loxley Lozenge' where Norman Clegg makes up a real shaggy dog story beginning 'Hitler was an Ovalteenie'. It's truly batty, one of the funniest things I've ever seen on telly. Of course, it's all about the I.o.M. symbol compared with the one with four legs - and of course it quickly meanders off the point.

At any rate, that front door is right up my street. I'd love to photograph it myself, so I'm seething with envy right now WinkWinkWinkWinkWink
A splendid find, Trev.

Great find Trev, I think the hedgehog is a symbol of the Manx wildlife trust.
Stay safe

Well observed, Kate! Never thought about the direction until now. All the early depictions of the symbol on the Isle of Man have the legs running clockwise. Most but not all modern examples of the symbol also have the legs running in a clockwise direction. The present rotation of the legs (as shown here and also on the IOM flag) was restored by a royal proclamation in 1968. So really, either direction is correct! 😁

Methinks an expeditionary raid needs to be planned to the IoM having seen how photogenic and full of photo opps the island is, Trev. Not to mention the fascinating history of the island...
Now all we need is to be allowed to travel freely again...

BTW, if the legs are normally shown running clockwise, is it a sign of distress to show them running anti-clockwise - a bit like flying the Union Jack upside down...?
