Time warp

By jdenman
Another first for me, photographing a small car show as part of the Albox fiesta events. The bar I took the other images from, was just across the road from the event, so a perfect place to enjoy it from.
This old Renault 4 had been fully restored and looked great, when the lady behind came into view with her top had to have a shot. For me she almost fits the period the car was made in, so was quite happy. Enjoyed taking the car photo's, will not be so scared of photographing them next time.

On the one hand, French cars are so... odd. A friend had a Renault 6, and the complexity of the belts and gearchange mechanism under the bonnet was stunning. Made a Mini (a proper Issigonis one) seem so simple and straightforward.

On the other hand, they tended to provide what you need (space, a degree of comfort, economy) simply.

Odd that the car industry has sort of reinvented that kind of vehicle, with things like the Kia Soul and all the "sit upright" versions of saloons. But only sort of...

Huge wave of nostalgia here at Woolybill Towers because my first car was a blue Renault 4TL, though of a darker blue that earned him the name Napoleon. Despite his measly little engine I could drive him from Newcastle to Southampton in a similar time that it takes me now, in a modern diesel saloon on motorways that didn't exist back in 1975. The only trouble was that the bodywork was made of rust, and very thin rust at that . . . .

Thanks for the memory!

I hate this feckin car. My 1st was a red one & it gee grief for 3 years until I took it the scrap yard with immense satisfaction.
Good image though sorry about the rant.
