Tintern Abbey

By DicksPics
Tintern Abbey was founded by Walter de Clare, Lord of Chepstow, on 9 May 1131. It is situated in the village of Tintern in Monmouthshire, on the Welsh bank of the River Wye which forms the border between Monmouthshire in Wales and Gloucestershire in England. It was only the second Cistercian foundation in Britain, and the first in Wales.
This truly magnificent abbey was yet another victim of King Henry VIII - a royal vandal of the highest order, being responsible for the 'Dissolution of the Monasteries', sometimes referred to as the ''Suppression of the Monasteries'.
Many appreciative thanks for all views, votes and comments on my 'River Wye Panorama' and special thanks to Graham(digital_boi), Patty(pentaxpatty) and Gary(gary_d) for their treasured and much valued User Awards!
I'm sorry I've only dipped in and out of EPZ over the last week or so - life has been a bit hectic just lately.
Have a good week,

I've seen some others churches during the Britain part of the "Tour de France", in the same condition, and I thought the TV commentator who spoke of that "great work" of Henry VIII of ruining the former abbeys was exaggerating, but now I see that I was the one that was in error!
Was to add: it's "comforting" to know that others have had also their "own vandals" not only you, and your nation (I mean that I thought only we Romanians, we have this "vocation and delight" of destroying ourselves our witnesses of the past !)

A monumental, majestic ruin excellent captured and presented Richard!
Lovely to see that so much of it remains. Excellent capture Richard.SmileSmileSmileSmile
