Tiny hosta garden

By oldgreyheron
We visited Hurworth-on-Tees to view some gardens under the ngs gardens open for charity scheme on Sunday. The range of gardens was great and we had a most enjoyable afternoon. This was the first tiny garden we visited, there was another equally small "room". I love hostas. You'll note that there is no evidence of slug damage. When the owner was asked how that was managed, he said that his wife sent him out every evening to remove them by hand. I think he said that he threw them outside the garden. "Do they return?" we asked... "Yes" he said "we marked some with coloured dots and one took two weeks to return, but return it did!" Slug-killing pellets not allowed because of the fatal effects on birds and hedgehogs.

Probably more garden photos to follow!

This is delightful. The idea of hand-picking slugs, less delightful...

A gorgeous hosta garden - so many different varieties and markings and that one rogue
welsh poppy. I like the horseshoes on the window sill too.

Love the idea of colour coded slugs. That apart the plants look wonderful.

What a lovely little garden.
I have a recipe that gets rid of slugs and doesn't harm anything else.
Mix 1 part vinegar and 1 part water in a spay bottle. Squirt on the slug....they will dissolve into a green goo and never return. Try it, it works!
