To crop or Not to crop?

By cats_123
Good morning Epzers 😁.... the sun is shining

Good news....my camera is not broken
Bad news ...my 14-42 lens is broken

I was just preparing to send my camera for repair and decided to retest with all my lenses. Lo and behold, it worked with my Panasonic Lumix...and an older Olympus lens. Such a relief 😁

Today, one shot that can be cropped several ways... your preference? or leave it be?

I think they must be eating oysters..not to my taste 😁😁

Have a great day and stay safe 😁

While V1 is rather splendid I think the lead stands well as presented, putting the diners in context. V2 is a bit cramped.

no oysters for me, in the first place..
just as James noted, v.2 crop doesn't work, whereas v.1 is perfect and deserves a standalone presentation..
and of course the lead for a context
Smile
p.s. and it was good to hear your camera is OK

The main upload for me, the others are too constrained, cramped. This needs space to breathe.
Oysters work straight out of the sea. Not otherwise...

If I could I would crop the guy in the shorts out, but I think it would be too tight a crop. Ted. GrinGrin

Too bad about your lens. Sorry. A fine lead and that's my preference.

V2 is the one I prefer. The lead image feels a bit lopsided with all the people in the left half, whereas V1 feels very squeezed into the frame.
This is the cheapest of the Olympus lens to purchase. When I dropped my 40/150 lens, it cost £100 to repair by Olympus and it was away for about 4 weeks. It was repaired in Portugal at the Olympus work shop.
EBay has them for sale at under £100.

thanks, Ian. I've ordered one from a reliable source for £79...was tempted by the 12-40, but they retail in excess of£400

Personally, I agree with you...the crop of the bearded man looks quite good when viewed large😁

The thought of oysters makes me feel ill so don't want to see them being gobbled. So th guy on his own for me. Large view is good.

Excellent work, I like the crop in V1 with that interesting character...
