Tom in Field

By possumhead
The farmer would have got a bit upset if I let Tom the horse just walk through his field so for the first time I have used photoshop to bring the field and Tom together, but I feel it just is not real enough so could anybody give me any ideas to make this pic more real.
Thanks, Gary

The first thing is that this is quite a striking image, which I'm sure is what you were aiming for. However it doesn't quite work mainly because of the difference in lighting between Tom and his landscape. Tom is in bright sunlight such that his head is casting a strong and harsh shadow on his flank, yet he casts no shadow to talk of in the field of rape. Similarly the rape looks to be taken in quite flat light.

It also worries me that the crop shows no sign of damage- but I think you'd get away with that if the lighting hadn't alerted me to look for what is wrong here.

And on a separate note- I'd remove that bright white distraction (house?) above Tom's shoulder. It may be there, but it immediately draws ones attention.

A cunning plan! SmileSmile I think the give away for me was the tail, I think it needs a bit more feathering? Oh and unless Tom is truly enormous he should be lower in the crop as it is usually about 4 ft + tall during flowering!

Generally very well done, except for the tail, - and the Rape needs to be a little higher on the legs. I like how youve included a shadow for the horse.

Ive loaded a quick mod as an example.

Ok, shadows and things. This is great - I really wish we saw more work like this - thought, skill and ability. Most people would accept this as real in the outside world - for me - very good indeed. Possibly just a crop off the sky to create a more letterbox shot.

Hi, I agree with many of the comments above, but felt that the overall effect could be improved...I've posted a quick mod which I think helps focus on Tom and not the surroundings. Cheers, Vin
