Tombolo

By hwatt
Loch Eribol, Sutherland, Scotland.

This is surely the very definition of isolated or lonely. Imagine living there for a year your mindset would surely be polarised into one of pleasure or pain. This is a tombolo (an isthmus where back to back concave beaches form this strange land artefact). It used to be the site of an old abandoned lime kiln and I guess this would have been the managers house associated with it, though I am only guessing about that. I have taken this picture a few times but the sombre mist, low contrast light and sad blues with negligible clarity really do serve to simplify this bare bones composition.

Fascinating story, fascinating place. The soft light and mist are perfect!

A lot that attracts me about the place, as well as the picture...

Somewhere that you'd find out about yourself, in some detail, I reckon.
